Time is a component of the measuring system used to sequence events, to compare the durations of events and the intervals between them, and to quantify the motions of objects. Time has been a major subject of religion, philosophy, and science, but defining it in a non-controversial manner applicable to all fields of study has consistently eluded the greatest scholars.
This definition does not apply to Sterling. I do, however, believe that I am beginning to get a grasp on his version of time.
In "Sterlingtime", 5 minutes equals +/- two and one half hours plus two bathroom breaks (no. 2), plus asking me how to pronounce "expressions", plus tapping on my phone to actually make me believe he is using it as a calculator, plus moving from chair to chair to couch, plus attempting to convince me that getting a B on a test and 4 out of 5 on an English assignment is just as good as an A on a test and 5/5 on an English assignment.
Confused? Good! Welcome to my hell!
Tonight...one simple math assignment and 20 mins of reading (what he originally told me he had) turned into three math assignments, 20 mins of reading and studying for a test that I was unaware of/forgot about. Homework started after dinner at 7:30 and ended at 10:15. ADDITIONALLY, WE HAVE MORE MATH TO DO! (would have been nice to get ahead/have it done.)
I came so close to grounding him tonight! I barked at him for twenty minutes in an attempt to make him understand that his time management/priorities are completely bass-ackwards.
What's worse is when the homework was done...it was as if nothing happened. Just another day in the park for ol' Sterling. Before going to bed he wished for snow and two hours late for school.
Today we got up late. He went over to a friends. We went and got a passport photo for him. Had lunch. Went to a 2 hour movie (Twilight. Which is not a vampire movie. Nor is it a warewolf movie. It's a teenage girly movie.). Then he went over to that same friends house for two hours while I went to his moms to get clothes he left there and I went grocery shopping and I cooked dinner.
I don't believe he did it intentionally...HONESTLY!
He just doesn't think. When he does, it's disjointed.
Things are gonna change around here. I have already changed things up once. (He is to come straight home and tell me what happened in each class AND what homework he has in each.) I knew he had a bit of homework...BUT NOT THAT MUCH!
From now on, on Friday, he will WRITE down all remaining homework/tests that are due on Monday. We will then knock it out a bit at a time throughout the weekend.
