Sterling spent two nights with his mother, then the next with with a friend. He came home after school each day, before being picked up by his mom, and got a fresh change of clothes. When he came home for good, we talked about what he had done those three days. Trips to the mall, skatepark, video games and the like. I took a look at him and decided he needed a change of clothes and a shower. He declined the shower, saying he would later. I asked him to throw his dirty clothes in the washer and get clean ones. He peeled off his "skinny" jeans, socks and shirt and grabbed new. Before he could start changing, I asked, "is your underwear dirty"? He pulled down his underwear and looked inside them. "Nope."
I had asked in attempt to spur him to simply take them off and replace with clean.
"Are you looking for skidmarks?" I asked him.
"Yup". "No skidmarks...these are clean, dad".
I started laughing. "NO. Skidmarks are not the deciding factor. Change your underwear!"
Really!
