I could have named this story "Welcome back to the same shit as the last school year."
Trust is a difficult thing to earn. It's even more difficult to earn if you've been burned by the Anti-Trust Fairy.
The Anti-Trust Fairy can come in many lies and stories. It can come from adults or kids. Once it comes, it's difficult to trust again. Rather, it's difficult to trust EASILY, again.
Sterling and I had a conversation last night that ended up with him saying, "you never believe me! Why do you never believe me!"
I'll tell you why I have trouble believing you. It's because you say one thing and do another.
"Yes, I have my keys".
"Yes, I've done my homework".
"No, I don't have any homework".
"I didn't do it."
"I did it."
"I didn't eat anything...REALLY."
"It's over at Jaden's house".
So when I asked Sterling if he had any homework/if he didn't turn in any of his homework this weekend and he replied "nope", I was a bit skeptical. Last year his grades were not good. He didn't do a bunch of homework. I don't want him to dig himself a huge hole this year...so I ask the questions.
It didn't help his cause when he started smiling as he was responding to my questions. The smile is the sure giveaway that his story has holes in it/he's not telling the truth. When I don't fall for his story or he gets tired of me asking the questions that are getting him too close to him having to answer the truth...he pretends to get mad and last night came back with "you never believe me".
When I went online to look at his grades, I discovered why he was smiling and pretending to get mad.
"Why didn't you turn in this quiz in pre-engineering?" I asked after reviewing his grades online.
"I don't remember taking a quiz!" He barked.
"Well...a quiz was taken and you didn't do it/hand it in." I retorted.
LOOK...IT'S THE ANTI-TRUST FAIRY!
Anyway...that's why I never believe you, Sterling.
You either need to come up with new excuses or do your homework...those tired excuses aren't gonna fly this year.
