Sterling was given a guitar for Christmas. For not having played before he is really good. Serious. He played it the whole three and a half hour drive home from Seattle. When he got home, he would strum on it. He is good.
I, on the other hand, am not. A couple of times, when the house was empty, I picked up the guitar and would try to strum it. The noise made by the guitar is horrible.
This morning Sterling had school. First day back after the break. I get up before him. I drink a cup of coffee, jump in the shower get dressed then wake him up. Sometimes, when I'm feeling funny, I'll sing him a horrible version of the "get up" song. As off key as I can, I'll sing "it's time to get up, it's time to get up, it's time to get up in the moooooorrrning!"
I was feeling especially funny this morning. This morning, I grabbed his guitar and told him to get up. I then announced that I had a new song. "I'd like to serenade you while you wake up" I said. "I call this one flummoxing swan and the beast within" and made unholy noises come out of the guitar for about one minute.
He simply stared. I had a smile from ear to ear. I was genuinely pleased with the noise and title of my song.
