The first day of summer break

My ma tells everyone that EVERY year, on the first day of summer break, I would hurt myself/get myself in trouble.  So, with this in mind, it is with great trepidation that I allow Sterling out of the house at all when school is out for the summer.
As the last day of school came and went, Sterling told me that he and his friends would kick off their summer vacation by leaving their respective houses at 7am and walk to the skate park.  I asked him what time he was planning on going to bed now that he had no school.  "Midnight" he replied.  Again, I queried..."So you're going to bed at midnight...your friends probably are as well...and you actually believe that you will wake up at 7?"
"Yes." was his response.  OK, fine.  We'll see.
When he woke ME up at 7am and fifteen minutes later he was walking out the door I was astonished.
"See ya in 5 minutes", I quipped.  He didn't come back, tho.
I left for work an hour later.  All day long I thought how messy the house would be upon my return.  I imagined how I would come storming in seeing the messy house with 10 kids yelling and listening to crappy music.  I also imagined how he had broken a window or two at our or anothers house.  I imagined how I would find blood outside the house.  Coming home I thought I may give myself an aneurism...meeting ran long, left work late, traffic shitty...thankfully, aneurisms run in the family. (whew!)
All that for nothing.  The house was clean...ish.  Sterling came in 10 minutes after me.
"Guess what happened, dad?" he asked.  Crap...here it comes!  What did he break/steal/mess up/lose/run away from/eat/break (again)?
"Jaden fell off his skateboard face first.  His teeth went completely through his front lip.  I went to the hospital with him and his mom.  There was blood all over his skateboard.  He got 7 stitches in his top lip.  His lip is hugely fat now.  He can't ride a skateboard for 48 hours.  He has to see a dentist cause two teeth are loose."

Thank you.  Thank you, Jaden.  I feel bad you busted your lip and got stitches.  Nonetheless...thank you.

One day of summer break down and the kid isn't hurt/grounded/dead/bloody/in the hospital.
Here's to day two...Cheers!
